How To Cook: Preparing Food Is Not So Complicated
How To Cook For Dummies.
I think many people are frightened about cooking techniques, failing helplessly and then becoming someone scorned by whoever was unlucky enough to be served a meal by them. Coooking is much easier than it seems once you lose the fear you have of flopping and creating a havoc in the kitchen without the intent of setting it alight.
My Earliest Cooking Memories
I remember it as if it was yesterday my dad yelling at me because the food was unacceptable. I ice, I knew "how to cook rice" and there was gravy. At that time I was about 12 years old and if I remember correctly my mother wasn't well or expecting my sister so it was up to me to make dinner and I think for the third consecutive night I had made rice with brown gravy... cannot remember if there was meat in the dish or not but just that my father was really upset.
Little did I know at the time that I would spend 15 years of my life inside a kitchen, study professional cookery and work in the back and front of hospitality locations. I have seen everything in how to cook meat, vegetarian, seafood, baking, you name it I had seen how every foodie item was prepared if not having offered it to customers. Yeah I started out as a teenager waitering for pocket money and after years decided to concrete everything I'd learned by going and studying professional cookery.
About food, I had seen it all... the good, bad and ugly of what goes on behind closed doors of a restaurant, the do's and don't of cooking, freezing and preparation, storage.
Fifo which is just first in first out of products within a refrigeration section. Ever watched Gordon Ramsey's, Hell's Kitchen? Yeah I've seen my fair share of all hell breaking loose in back of house as its called. Though my main interest for creating this foodie blog is more about the love and appreciation of food as it is such a huge necessity in the stressful life we lead in modern times. Especially if consuming the wrong foods as part of a lifestyle can result in disease, it really is imperative to know food more than just knowing the how to cook this or that. and hopefully that is what I want to convey through this foodie blog, how to cook whatever you like but especially easy quick meals and then even the more it seems impossible to design 5 star creations. You could even learn how to whip up these yourself fairly quickly as the cooking techniques once you learn them you become better at doing much like riding a bicycle, every time you fall you have to get up and thats when you will eventually get it right.
The Science of Baking
With the intricate and complicated dessert 5 star menu items. They are not as difficult as perceived once you break down the foodie preparation of your recipe ingredients. And as much as I hardly ever work with a recipe now, I always advise you to stick firmly to a baking recipe as it is quite a science, baking. Just minus one ingredient accidently or add a milligram too much of baking powder or other ingredient and your lovely birthday cake recipe is totally blown. So yes, with baking please stick to recipe precisely and before baking for a special event you have your heart set upon. Try that recipe at least a half dozen times so you have the knack and flow of the recipe and or how you could tweak it for the final recipe blastoff.
Basic cooking tips
From the WebMD archive
You do not cook? You're not alone these days, experts say. The good news is, armed with a few basic cooking tips, it's just more convenient to be in the kitchen.
Some of us grew up in the kitchen with our parents and grandparents to learn the secrets of the precious family recipes. And grown up years later, we're probably trying to create new recipes, our own versions, and joyfully sharing creations with family and friends.
On the other side of the kitchen are the legions of people who think cooking is something you watch on the Food Network. Cooking programs are hot, but a whole generation of people, is more convenient to watch food is prepared than to do it yourself. The idea of cooking opens a can of something and warming in the microwave - like a friend of mine, uses toilet paper stashes and other housewares in their oven.
Despite the ever growing number of cookbooks, cooking schools, food TV shows, and website cooking videos, many of us seem to have too many competing priorities, not enough time, and a lack of confidence to whip up meals at home.
"We have spawned a generation of" non-cooks who do not have housekeeping at school, are pinched for time and intimidated by cooking and following recipes, and would rather eat to take-out, or just eat fast and simple sandwiches or frozen pizza, "says Carolyn O'Neil, RD, author of the Dish on the eating healthy and Being Fabulous.
It's ironic, experts say, that fewer people in the kitchen preparing meals are also exploding over our cooking, ingredients and appliances during our cultural sophistication.
"We are inundated with all things culinary, with access to the highest-end ingredients, specialty cookbooks and sophisticated appliances, and have generated more" foodies "to start dinner clubs and enjoy arcane cuisine," says Martha Holmberg, food editor of The Oregonian Newspaper in Portland, Ore.
Basic Cooking Tip: Learn to cook more healthy food
So why cook to bother learning? Because the more time you spend cooking at home, the more healthy you tend to eat. Being more comfortable in the kitchen is important if you want to have a healthy diet and control your calorie intake.

"When you choose the recipes and ingredients you have total control over what you eat," says Ellie Krieger, MS, RD, host of the Healthy Appetite Show Food Network. "Cooking gives you an insight into what ingredients you eat."
Elaine Magee, MPH, RD, the 'Recipe Doctor' for WebMD and the WebMD Weight Loss Clinic , agrees.
"Homemade dishes allow you to increase the fiber option to reduce vitamins and minerals and reduce unhealthy fats and replace them with healthier fats for more nutritious recipes," says Magee.
Good food does not have to be laborious or difficult to produce, experts say. Some of the delicious foods are simply seasonal products, such as tomatoes with a dash of olive oil and fresh herbs or corn on the cob with a touch of butter.
And do not think everything has to be done from scratch to be healthy.
Cooking with Convenience Products "How scratches cooking can be as nutritious as long as you use whole foods like canned beans, whole grains, or canned tomatoes," says Holmberg.
Basic Cooking Tip: Conquer your fear of cooking
Some non-cooks are afraid to venture into the kitchen because they want to be perfect. The truth is that when it comes to food, it's "perfect" in the mouth that they eat.
"Forget perfection," says Krieger. "Cooking is all about having fun, experimenting and enjoying the process, and remember, even the best chefs have recipes that fail."
Learn from your mistakes and improve on the recipe next time, she advises.
"Start by choosing a simple recipe with just a few ingredients and remember cooking as is yoga - practice it regularly, and you'll get better and better as you learn," says Krieger.
Familiarize yourself with a few basic techniques and buying quality ingredients, and you have the foundation for creating simple and tasty foods.
"If you can roast a boneless chicken breast , it can be the centerpiece for numerous dishes," says O'Neil. "Accessorize the chicken breast with capers and lemon or grill or an Asian sauce and serve it with fresh steamed vegetables and wholegrain, and you have a nice meal."
Magee is a big fan of roast and uses technology with everything from vegetables to meat.
"Roasting is a very simple technique and one of the best ways to bring the taste to life without fat or just adding a little fat," says Magee.
After following down some techniques, Holmberg recommends buying fresh, seasonal and local ingredients for the best results.

Basic Chef Tip: Get Inspired
A great way to get inspired is by watching TV or watching videos on the website that show cooking tips, techniques and making it easier in the kitchen. Tune in and watch the pros weigh, measure, whisk, fry, and emulsify.
"Television or video-visual are those that allow the viewer to see texture, shape, and the finished product," Krieger says. "You can also see exactly how certain techniques such as" tanning "achieve or" wrinkles, "and it will boost your confidence in the kitchen."
But do not expect to become a gourmet chef without much practice.
"You would think the popularity of food shows on television would translate into a better home cooking, but that's like saying watching professional baseball helps you become a professional baseball player," says O'Neil.
Krieger recommends watching food television, which offers home-style cooking.
"Some cooks chop an onion in a nanosecond, which can be very intimidating," she says. "But there are many food shows geared for the beginner who can really turn that into useful information at home."
